Lily Carassik from Apex Horns

Hi Peter!
Thanks again for letting us try out the instruments! I’m so excited to get my new horn!
Some words about the trumpets I tried:
I have been playing a P.Mauriat 700 for the past year because I was in my final year of completing a jazz degree and I was looking for something agile and light but with an interesting and dark sound. Before trying out the 72 and 720 I was expecting very similar horns with perhaps slight adjustments to things like the valves or finger hooks. However, I was surprised to find that the 72 and 720 are beautiful horns in their own right, with more weight, and a clear, defined timbre.

Just like the 700, they make it easy to pitch, making lip slurs almost effortless and they both require very little blowing to get a good sound out which is perfect for those high energy gigs.

I decided to go with the 720 as I found the sound to be both rich and velvety but also punchy and zingy towards the top register which caters exceptionally well to the jazz and pop gigs I do. The weight is there but still fairly light overall and the valves are quick and responsive with such an interesting design!

I am so happy to be getting my new P.Mauriat and see what if can really do!

Steven Craven.A.G.S.M.Trumpet.Malaga Philharmonic Orchestra. Odyssey Brass Quintet Spain.

For the past 30 years as a professional trumpet player I have participated in a wide variety of demanding situations that a musician can find himself performing.Sometimes on occsions it is wise to be well prepared and to go into these situtions with a very high level of quality tools preparing your arsenal of defensive weapons against any kind of aspect of music making.Over the years I have been trying to find good quality reliable equipment to meet my personal demands. In todays competitive markets there are so many instrument makers and dealers all over the world and most brands you will have to pay top dollar for almost any kind of professional level instrument. A couple of years ago I met master craftsman of O dos se yo wind instruments Peter Pollard from Manchester UK. At first when I heard about these instruments I immediatly thought they were just another run of the mill instrument. Now, ive played tested and performed on these unique instruments I can be very confident that their quality and characteristics have been very helpful in difficult times just when your looking for that special kind of instrument that gets the job done.Pollard instruments range from student modles through to medium models and up to professional custom line. The student model in particular the OTR1200 Odyssey Bb with changeable slides to C is a very versitile student trumpet indeed giving breadth of sound ,great response in articulation and attacks and controlled lyrical movement in those pianissimo passages without losing any of the previous mentioned characteristics. One of the most outstanding features of these Odyssey instruments are the relation quality to price. The student or professional are getting a great deal as the low price does not reflect these instruments great qualities. I am now a Pollard instrumentalist and will trust these instruments to do the job. Thank you Peter Pollard.
