Odyssey Debut Cornet by Pollard- £189

OCR200

I am a professional freelance trumpet player and teacher in London, UK. I have known Peter Pollard for a few years and he asked me to test out some of his new Odyssey line of brass instruments. I chose to test the most basic cornet model (in lacquer) as this is the kind of instrument that students within my school teaching are most likely to buy.

I was immediately struck by the look and feel of the cornet I received, which is finished to a very high standard. The case is smart, lightweight, strong and easy to carry. The moving parts – slides and valves – are beautifully engineered and the general build quality of the instrument is excellent.

Using my own cornet mouthpiece, I found the instrument easy to play with the rich sound and blow of an expensive professional brass instrument. This cornet is very well in tune from top to bottom with a lovely sound, affordable and clearly built to last. I recommend this excellent instrument to anyone who is looking for a cornet and doesn’t want to spend several hundred pounds.
