Monday Evening

Jazz at the Arden

We’ve just started a regular jazz night on Monday evenings. We are proud to present for your enjoyment “Louisiana Highway”, a trio playing good old tunes, New Orleans standards, rhythm & blues & anything else they fancy. They come with an immaculate pedigree- read about trumpeteer Dave Copperwaite’s life in music in Just Jazz Magazine, July 2008 and more here. They kick off at 8.30 & play till late. Admission is free & a buffet is thrown in halfway through. What more could you want!

Joe & Steve warmly welcome you to the Arden Arms!

barpictureThe “Arden Arms”was voted Greater Manchester’s Regional Pub of the Year in the 32nd edition of the Good Beer Guide published by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The pub went on to win the Runner up prize in the National Competition in 2004, placing the ‘Arden’ in the top four pubs in Britain as judged by the people who matter most , the customers

These awards are based on criteria including the quality of beer, customer service, decor & value for money. See CAMRA’s awards page here.

More recently the pub was nominated as “Pub of the Year” as part of the Manchester Food & Drink Festival 2008. As well as being judged by Manchester’s Food & Drink professionals, the nominees also received votes from the public.

We are delighted to announce that we were declared “Pub of the Year”for 2008/2009.

The Arden is a gem of a pub, an early 19th century coaching inn set on the edge of Stockport’s historic Market Place.

The Good Beer Guide describes the pub as “Grade II listed & warranting a visit for the building alone” ,The Guide continues ” Note the fine bar, tiled lobby, grandfather clock & splendid snug” Although we would be delighted if you’d stay for a pint & a spot of lunch as well!

Why not read our history page to learn more about the pub’s fascinating past.

The pub features traditional hand pulled beers from Stockport’s Robinsons Brewery and an extensive range of wine, spirits, liqueurs and soft drinks. Lunches are served every day of the week and are of a very high quality ( Joe & Steve formerly ran a successful Manchester restaurant, That Cafe in Levenshulme) . Choose a bowl of home made soup, a sandwich or a three course meal and enjoy it in front of the two real fires in winter or in the sunny cobbled courtyard in the summer. The Beer, Food & Specials pages give more details

In the evening, the pub becomes a meeting place for many local societies & organisations, has a regular weekly charity quiz night & supports a thriving darts team. The pub also attracts a local gay crowd, particularly at the weekends. Have a look at the Events page for more details

Please enjoy the website and pay us a visit when you are next in Stockport!

Food at the Arden ArmsHere at the Arden Arms we unashamedly boast that we serve restaurant quality food at pub prices. We have had many previous years of experience running a successful Manchester restaurant that won awards for its food and was mentioned in many leading guides.

We now focus on a quality lunch menu of sandwiches both hot and cold, home made soup and side orders together with a small range of freshly cooked daily specials which we change on a daily basis. Please ring us if you want to know what they are on the morning of your visit. You will find an example of one of our “Specials” Menus on the Specials Page

The quality of our menu is very important to us and we only use fresh ingredients, often supplied by well regarded local suppliers such as Hazeldines of Hazel Grove, a long established Independent Butcher and a family run fishmongers, Direct Fish, on Market Brow close to Stockport’s historic market.

We are always happy to provide buffet food for parties of eight or more who wish to meet in the Arden Arms in the afternoon or evening. Please drop in or call to discuss your individual requirements.
