The Birth of “Pollard Trumpets”.

Peter Pollard starting his musical career at the young age of 11, when his Grandfather Harry died and it was his family’s wishes to be buried by the Salvation Army., Peter’s Mums family had been staunch Salvationists for generations only stopping the family tradition when his Mum married Arthur who was affiliated with the Brethren.

Harry had been a Bandsman of the Manchester Temple Corps where indeed all Peter’s mums family had taken an active roll.

When Peter’s grandfather died and he attended the funeral at the Manchester Temple he was asked to join the Sunday school where soon the SA life began.

Member of the junior band on cornet, the instrument that his grandfather played.

Soon the Temple was to be amalgamated with Openshaw Citadel and

Peter under the tutelage of some fine SA Bandsmen and Bandmasters progressed through the ranks.

Also playing cornet in the Heys Boys Band at school inder the leadership of Mr Bernard Quinn

Auditioning for Ida Carroll at the then Northern School of Music was turned down for entry because his piano playing wasn’t up to scratch, but told he could start the following year.

Peter went out looking for a job that would allow him to practise the piano at every opportunity.

Forsyths took him on in the Orchestral Instrument department.

Mr Hall the manger was “THE” Master craftsman that “ALL” pro musicians trusted to do their repairs. Peter soon found himself rubbing shoulders will all the woodwind and brass players’ of the.BBC, HALLE, NDO.SYD LAWERENCE, BBC WELSH etc etc etc.

Mr Hall saw how Peter handled himself and said he would make a good repairer so with the help of his son Ralph Hall, pro horn player, Peter started on his first apprentiship.1969 to 1972

In 1972 Peter moved to Canada to further his training.

First working for Morgan Sharp (Songster leader at London Citadel Ontario) at Harmony House of Music.

Peter was now playing in the Woodstock Citadel Band.

Peter met Ed Weaver who in the London (Ontario) Region was considered on of the best repairers, so he moved over to learn and work with him at Music Aid

Peter now attending London Citadel Corps.

Peter always striving to learn more, moved to Toronto and the Earlscourt Citadel band.


Toronto was very different to London,with a very active music scene and many touring bands.

Peter started working with Eugine Nobili at “The Music Lab” learning again from some Masters in the field of instrument repairs.

Homesick to visit England and his family…..Peter returned to the UK.


Opening…Peter Pollard Music Ltd & Musicparts UK. with workshops in Bury. Lancs.


The call from the Sunshine State….Florida. Terry Warburton (Warburton Mouthpieces) had so much work and no help and needed Peter’s help to keep up with the orders… Peter obliged and headed for the sun.


Travelling between Miami & Toronto, Peter opened Musicparts Canada.Doing repairs fo all the major shops in the Toronto area and many proffessional musicians. (Still friends to this day.)


After a total of 15 years in North America,Peter Returns to the Uk and Musicparts UK.with a workshop in Worsley,Manchester.

    I enjoyed reading this. I am a fellow former Earlscourt Citadel Bandsman (Euphonium). I was in the band when we toured Scandinavia in 1981. I have many photos of this trip on my website.
